Jacksonville is located in central Arkansas, just 15 miles northeast of Little Rock. Named for Mr. Nicholas Jackson, who donated land for a railroad right-of-way in 1870. The community around the railroad depot evolved into the town of Jacksonville, incorporating in 1941. Today the city is home to more than 31,000 people, making it the 11th largest in the state with a median age of 30. The largest economic impact on the city is the Little Rock Air Force Base, which, despite the name, is actually in Jacksonville.
